Visteon Promotes Digital Radio Mondiale for Automotive Applications

Visteon Promotes Digital Radio Mondiale for Automotive Applications

KERPEN, Germany, Sept. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Through a collaborative project with the RTL Group, Europe's leading broadcasting and production company, Visteon Corporation (NYSE:VC) will demonstrate an in-vehicle Digital Radio Mondiale (DRM) receiver at the IFA World of Consumer Electronics Show in Berlin, Sept. 2-7. The Visteon DRM, FM & AM CD-Tuner will be on display at the DRM Automotive Digital Radio booth (hall 5.2a - stand 102).

(Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20001201/DEF008LOGO )

With support of the RTL Group, Visteon has contributed its audio and infotainment expertise to develop a modified radio receiver for DRM signal reception. The RTL Group is one of the key members of the Digital Radio Mondiale consortium.

The introduction of Digital Radio Mondiale will enable broadcasters to continue moving radio technology from analog to digital format, increasing sound and content quality. As a key benefit of DRM, consumers will be able to receive broadcasts in their homes and cars. DRM is designed to deliver a noise- and hiss-free sound quality, substantially improved over conventional analog radio. Most importantly for drivers, as already demonstrated in test drives, DRM can generally deliver excellent reception results in vehicles, even at high speeds.

"Digital Radio Mondiale is already aired in more than 30 countries with broadcast members from all six continents," said Gerhard Zeiler, RTL Group's chief executive officer. "Many broadcasters have committed to the DRM format including RTL Group stations."

Linda Rivers Bell, Visteon's electronics product strategy and planning director, points out that Visteon's infotainment and sound management capabilities are well established in the automotive industry, "We are prepared to deliver automotive grade DRM solutions, whenever the market is ready."

Visteon designs, tests and engineers sound systems for the automotive environment that accurately reproduce sound across all broadcast standards. Visteon is already supplying HD Radio/In-Band On-Channel (IBOC) modules and Satellite Radio Systems in North America, as well as Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) modules in Europe.

"As a strong supporter of new technologies, we consider DRM a complementary technology to the existing digital radio standards," says Bell.

The first DRM receivers will be available immediately following the IFA consumer show as tabletop radios able to receive DRM, DAB, FM and AM bands. Portable radios are expected to follow in 2006 and the market is expecting the first automotive solutions to follow thereafter.

About Digital Radio Mondiale

The DRM consortium formed in March 1998, when a small group of pioneering broadcasters and manufacturers joined forces to create a universal, digital system for the broadcasting bands below 30 MHz. DRM is the world's only, non- proprietary digital radio system for short-wave, AM/medium-wave and long-wave. DRM currently covers the broadcasting bands below 30 MHz, the DRM consortium voted in March 2005 to begin the process of extending the system to broadcasting bands up to 120 MHz. The design, development and testing phases are expected to be completed in the 2007-2009 time frame. The quality of DRM audio is considered excellent, and the improvement upon analog AM is immediately noticeable. Unlike digital systems that require a new frequency allocation, DRM uses existing AM broadcast frequency bands. DRM applications will include fixed and portable radios, car receivers, software receivers and PDAs. Broadcasters supporting DRM include Deutsche Welle and Sudwestrundfunk (SWR) in Germany, RTL Group stations, BBC World Service, Radio France and Voice of America, to name only a few. See http://www.drm.org/ for more information.

A new Wall Street Journal Online/Harris Interactive Personal Finance Poll finds that nearly two-thirds of U-S adults have taken one or more steps to ensure that their finances are handled properly should they die or become incapacitated; however, the concrete nature of this preparation varies. While nearly half of all adults say they have discussed their wishes with their friends and family, only about one-third have gone as far as drawing up a will, and nearly one-quarter have named a health-care proxy. Other steps taken include designating a power of attorney, working with a financial adviser, and setting up a revocable trust. We know it's hard and we want to make it a little easier on everybody."

The BlackAmericaWeb.com Relief Fund will accept donations to provide relief in the form of gift cards to support families who are housing those displaced by Hurricane Katrina. The Fund will support individual families who have opened their homes to displaced families and loved ones to supplement their households as relief efforts continue. Relief assistance will be given directly to the families who need assistance.

Taking a grassroots approach, the relief fund will partner with local churches throughout affected regions. The churches will serve as effective conduits in both identifying and assisting households in need. In addition to localized efforts, the nationally syndicated Tom Joyner Morning Show has suspended the popular "TJMS Cash Call" contest and will donate the contest money directly to relief efforts. This action alone donates more than $75,000 to the fund. Motivational speaker and personality, Tavis Smiley, Tom Joyner Morning Show personalities Sybil Wilkes and J Anthony Brown have each pledged $1,000 this morning.

"Ingen is on a steady course to the OTCBB, and will continue to support investors through a national radio program. We want people to have an inside look into our company, products, and strategies," said Scott Sand, CEO & Chairman.

About Ingen Technologies, Inc.

Ingen Technologies, Inc. is a public company trading under Nasdaq OTC: IGTN, which has been in business since 1999. IGTN is a medical device manufacturer and a growth-oriented company that owns US patent(s), trademarks, and proprietary medical products.

The Company's flagship product is OxyAlert(TM), a second-generation design of the Company's BAFI(TM) product line. Both of these products have been issued two US Patents: Patent No. 6,137,417 issued on October 24, 2000 and Patent No. 6,326,896 issued on December 4, 2001. Both of these products are low-oxygen safety warning devices used on remote oxygen cylinders for patients, commercial aircraft, military transport, and fire and safety equipment. OxyAlert(TM) technology encompasses the use of digital sensing and RF frequency transfer so that care givers can access a hand-held remote to monitor the actual oxygen level of any oxygen cylinder at a reasonable distance.

The newest product, OxyView(TM), has a patent pending, and is a pneumatic gauge that provides visual safety warning of oxygen flow to hospitalized patients. This product enhances the safety, assurance and accuracy of hospitalized patients being administered oxygen from any source. OxyView(TM) is a lightweight pneumatic gauge that is attached to the oxygen tubing just below the neck. It informs the nursing staff of oxygen flow rate near the patient. It could quickly inform the hospital staff of any leak or inaccuracy between the delivery source and the patient.

The Secure Balance(TM) product is a private-label product that includes a vestibular function testing system and balance therapy system. The vestibular function testing system is manufactured by Interacoustics LTD. in Denmark and is referred to as the VNG. The Secure Balance(TM) program provides equipment, education and training about balance and fall prevention to physicians and clinicians worldwide.

The Pure Produce(TM) product is a continuing research & development program currently under design. This program uses hydroponics technology to grow various plants without the use of soil, fertilizer and water consumption. The Company anticipates entering the nutriceutical and pharmaceutical markets over the next two years.

"Our team of professionals has developed our medical products for the ever-increasing elderly population. Our products are superior to any of our competition and they allow for effective medical product availability to seniors, and at the same time the increasing senior population allows for a steady growth in sales and profits," said Scott Sand, CEO & Chairman of Ingen Technologies.

Deep Throat, Goldwater, and Nader Top Out-of-Print Bestsellers

Deep Throat, Goldwater, and Nader Top Out-of-Print Bestsellers

BERKELEY, Calif., Sept. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Readers are seeking classic titles by 1960s and 1970s newsmakers W. Mark Felt (Deep Throat), Barry Goldwater, and Ralph Nader, according to the newly released BookFinder.com Report, a listing of the most sought-after out-of-print bestsellers in America.

Volume 3 of the BookFinder.com Report is based on BookFinder.com's analysis of aggregate trends for out-of-print book searches between July 2004 and June of 2005. The Report includes lists of the top-10 most searched for titles in ten different categories. See the complete results at http://report.bookfinder.com/ .

Before former FBI Associate Director W. Mark Felt was unmasked as being Watergate's Deep Throat, he was just another Washington player; his out-of-print 1979 memoir, The FBI Pyramid from the Inside, dealt with the agency's workings and includes denials of his involvement with the Watergate scandal. Demand for the book peaked after the revelation, as curious readers investigated what Deep Throat knew, and when he knew it.

"2004 saw a massive surge of demand for John Kerry's anti-war book The New Soldier and Lynne Cheney's frontier lesbian romance Sisters. The election's over, but readers are still looking for out-of-print political books from the 1960s and 1970s that provide context for current headlines," says BookFinder.com founder Anirvan Chatterjee.

1964 Republican Presidential candidate Barry Goldwater inspired a generation of young conservatives with his libertarian ideals. His 1960 book, The Conscience of a Conservative, discussed ideas still relevant to contemporary political readers, including the flat tax, the reduction of federal spending, and the privatization of social security.

While Goldwater was advocating reduced regulation of businesses, Ralph Nader was calling for just the opposite. His first book, 1965's Unsafe at Any Speed, was a blistering critique of the Chevrolet Corvair's poor safety design. The impact of the book, now out-of-print and in-demand, caused GM to redesign the car and launched the career of the consumer advocate and three-time Presidential candidate.

Since 1997, BookFinder.com has been one of the best ways to find and buy new, used, rare, and out-of-print books online. The free web service allows bibliophiles to comparison shop from a catalog of over 80 million books for sale from a network of 80,000 booksellers-making it the world's largest searchable book inventory, online or off.

Negative Attitudes to Labor Unions Show Little Change in Past Decade, According to New Harris Poll

According to a new Harris Poll, most American adults overall, most employed adults and, surprisingly, many union households rate labor unions negatively. Similar feelings, though somewhat less negative, are also felt toward Corporate America. While the American public gives credit to labor unions for improving wages and working conditions for workers, they are widely perceived as being too involved in politics and too concerned with fighting change. These attitudes have not substantially changed since 1993 when a similar Harris Poll was conducted.

Home Safety Council Study: Falls Are Leading Cause of Home Injury, But Americans' Home Safety Concerns May be Misguided

A new Home Safety Council survey reveals that many American families are overlooking a critical safety issue within the home; injuries caused by falls. To help raise awareness around this important public health issue, the Home Safety Council is encouraging all families to take safe steps to find and fix common falling dangers and increase the safety of their loved ones in and around the home.

Radio Sports Star Tony Bruno Recruited to Do Mornings at Greater Media's Sports Talk 950 in Philly

Radio Sports Star Tony Bruno Recruited to Do Mornings at Greater Media's Sports Talk 950 in Philly

PHILADELPHIA, Aug. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Greater Media Philadelphia is pleased to announce legendary sports personality Tony Bruno has been recruited to do mornings at the new Sports Talk 950. He will officially take over the radio airwaves weekday mornings from 9 am - 12 noon beginning on October 3, 2005.

Bruno has been called "possibly the best sports talk show host in America" by the Los Angeles Times. His career started at the age of 17 at WIFI in Philadelphia and a year later was working at the legendary pop station WFIL. Thirty-five years later, he has achieved what most sports broadcasters can only dream about.

Tony launched Sports Radio WIP as well as two networks - the ESPN Radio Network in 1992 from Bristol, Connecticut and eight years later launched FOX Sports Radio in Los Angeles.

"We are thrilled Tony has decided to join our team. He is the perfect player to kick off weekday mornings on Sports Talk 950. I cannot think of a better choice than Tony to give Philly sports fans the latest news and views they want to know about," said Station Manager Bob DeBlois.

The new interview-based, sports/talk oriented format will provide listeners with a new choice to hear the very best sports variety; facts, information and talk in Philadelphia.

"Wow! Philadelphia is my hometown, and it'll be great for my family, friends and supporters to get to hear how the local kid made good with the kind of sports talk they're not used to getting. I live and breathe Philly sports and am proud all the hard work has led this to finally becoming a reality," said Bruno.

He added, "I'm back on Philly radio and on a legendary station like 950 WPEN. I know this much, no one knows how the fans think, tick and breathe better than me. It's the best sports town in America and now I get the chance to show them how great sports talk radio really sounds."

WPEN is owned and operated by Greater Media Philadelphia, a subsidiary of Greater Media, Inc., the parent company of 19 AM and FM radio stations in the Boston, Detroit, New Jersey and Philadelphia markets. It also owns a modern printing plant and a group of weekly newspapers in central New Jersey as well as several telecommunications towers located throughout the United States.
